Sports injuries
Sports injuries occur due to either trauma or overuse of muscles/ joints. There are two sorts of sports injuries one is acute and the other one is chronic. An acute injury happens suddenly like a sprained ankle caused by an inconvenient landing. Whereas, chronic injuries are caused by repeated overuse of muscle groups or joints.
What causes sports injuries?
List of some of the reasons that contribute to sports injuries
- Poor training techniques
- Structural deformities
- Not taking the proper safety precautions for the sport
- Weakness in muscles
- Overtraining
- Uncertain exercising environments
- Not warming up correctly
- No knowledge of operating the sports equipment rightly
Here are the 6 common injuries that are caused by performing sport activities :-
Ankle injury
Ankle sprains happen when your ankle ligaments are overstretched. The strains differ in their severity, from a mediocre twisted ankle to critical full ligament fractures. Although some ankle sprains are minor and recover with a short rest from exercises. Whereas others can be severe and necessitate urgent medical consideration.
ACL tear
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the significant tear or strain in your knee. Athletes who engage in high demand sports that include jumping, landing, unexpected pauses or shifts in direction are most prone to hurt their ligaments. Sports such as soccer, basketball and downhill skiing are some of them.
Groin strain
A groin pull is an injury to any of the adductor tissues of the thigh. These are the muscles that are found on the inward side of the thigh. When the muscles are tensed vigorously or too abruptly, they may result in torn or over-stretched. Unexpected changes normally provoke a serious groin strain.
Hamstring injuries
A hamstring pain occurs when muscles are stretched beyond their limit or tear to the tendons at the back of the thigh. The word "hamstring" indicates the combination of 3 tissues that run along the back of the thigh, from your pelvis to just under your knee. They usually occur when sudden, convulsive actions like; sprinting, lunging or jumping take place.
Achilles Tendinitis
Achilles tendinitis is a natural state that happens when the broad tendon that goes down the back of your lower leg grows bothered and sore. The pain can occur inside the ligament itself or at the tip where it connects to the heel bone. It is the largest muscle in the body and is of two types insertional Achilles tendonitis and noninsertional Achilles tendonitis.
Runner's knee
Runner’s knee is the popular term used to explain the state that causes discomfort throughout the kneecap area also identified as the patella. People who are overweight are mainly inclined to this disorder. Movements that constantly stresses the knee joint can cause dysfunction. This can involve walking, jumping, cycling, skiing and biking
